How to edit the web site
by Greenstick
This is a piece of cake. If you can respool a reel with new line, you can
easily do this, too. Of course, if respooling is too hard for you to do, you
probably shouldn't be editing the web site, either...
Prerequisites for editing the site:
- A desire to have some fun and add value to the club.
- An Internet connection. Broadband or DSL is better and more secure than dialup.
- A PC. The FrontPage software will not work on a Mac. If you have the
newer Expression Web from Microsoft, it is fully FrontPage-compatible and
works much the same way.
How to connect the first time:
- Install the FrontPage software on your computer, using the serial number
you've been given. It's a bona-fide, licensed copy, not a pirated copy.
- After FrontPage is installed, start FrontPage on your computer.
- At the main screen, click FILE - OPEN SITE.
- Type http://www.waterdogsmn.org
into the box and click OPEN. A login screen will appear.
- The the user name you've been given into the top box: ______________
- Type the password you've been given into the 2nd box:______________
- Click on the Remember my password box if you like.
- Click OK. In a moment, you'll see the layout of the site on the left
side and a blank, editing area on the right.
- When you're done and want to log out of the web site, click FILE - CLOSE
SITE.
How to create a page:
- Connect to the web site.
- Click on the white "page" icon in the upper left corner of the screen,
just under the "File" menu option. The new, blank page will appear on the
right side of the screen.
- Type what you want, insert pictures, or other items that you want to
make your page interesting.
- When done, click File - SAVE AS, and give your page a name that hasn't
already been used. Important: don't put blank spaces in your page name.
While they'll generally still work, it's a better practice not to do so.
- If you've added pictures from your computer, FrontPage will
automatically import them and ask where you want to store them. Use the
browse tool that appears to select the PICTURES folder.
- When done, remember to click FILE - CLOSE SITE to log out.
How to edit an existing page:
- Connect to the web site.
- Click on the name of the page you want to edit from the list on the left
side of the screen. It will be displayed on the right side for editing.
- Make the changes you want.
- Click File - SAVE or click on the blue diskette icon near the upper left
of the screen just under the VIEW menu option.
- When done, remember to click FILE - CLOSE SITE to log out.
How to make a link to a different page:
- On the page you're editing, highlight one or two words that you want to
become the link. Sometimes you might add CLICK HERE FOR INFO or something
and underline the whole sentence. You highlight a word or two by holding
down the mouse button and dragging across the words you want.
- Once the words are selected, RIGHT-click anywhere on the selected words
and choose HYPERLINK.
- Use the Insert Hyperlink screen to find the page you want the link to go
to and select it.
- Click OK to finish the link.
- Remember to save your page and log out properly.
How to delete or rename something:
- Check with somebody first. Deleting or renaming the wrong thing is
generally okay, but some very, very weird things can happen if just the
wrong thing is deleted. Contact Greenstick if you have any doubt at all...
Okay, now you're an expert! Go have some fun!!!
